The causes of the Great Depression

The Great Depression started in 1929, especially on October 29. The world’s economy fell and it was the bigger economic depression in the 20th century. The crisis began in the United States. It had devastating effects on every country even if it was rich or poor. International dropped by half to two-thirds: personal income, tax revenue, prices and profits. That was a hard shock because the citizens were dependent on heavy industry. Farming and rural areas had prices fell by sixty percent. A lot of people lost their job and they were dependent on primary sector industries like farming, mining and logging.

In team, government and business spent more money in the first half of 1930 than in the previous year. Clients lost in the stock market with cut on their expenditures by ten percent. The major depression was from country to country. The factors were massive bank failures, the stock market crash and supply and demand.

Historians found a hypothesis cause and it was join to the question How to avoid a future depression? The search found information is about a failure on the government efforts, the bank failures and the control on money supply. One part of people believes it was a failure of the free markets and the other part believes it was a failure of government that was the problem.

Historians found some points of view on some theories on classical economics: monetarist, Austrian economics and neoclassical economic theory. The effect of money supply and the central banking decisions lead to overinvestment and the supply of gold including production and consumption.

Keynesian models including institutional economics, to underconsumption and overinvestment, malfeasance by bankers, industrialists and incompetence by government officials. The point of view is that was a lack of confidence. Many people thought they could make more money by keeping clear on the markets.

The Marxist critique of political economy is the tendency of capitalism to create accumulations of wealth, leading to over accumulations of capital and cycle of devaluations economic crisis. The Great Depression was unavoidable under free-market capitalism, no restrictions on accumulations of capital other than the market itself.

In 1930, credit was available at low rates but the citizens wasn’t agree to add new debt. Prices began to decline, the conditions were worse in farming areas and unemployment was high. The way was different in each country because the government made our own conditions. The desperate citizens turned to nationalist demagogues (Adolf Hitler).

Kraft summary

Summary

The main idea from Kraft Canada was to get consumers talking more about Shreddies, the familiar cereal brand. The company didn’t have a new product to launch, it wants to make changes to the product itself with a new way to talk about it.

The mission was accomplished. The new diamond concept Bianco was presented on billboards and television spots like a new product. The campaign was tested in Alberta before going national and people were talking of what they were saying. It started a debate about the ads insulted their intelligence or were just plain funny.

Three years ago, Bianco more centralized North American structure for greater local input and autonomy. Decision-making for Canada was a better understanding of our consumers. The specialists found where they was emotionally and how our brands fit into their lives. After results of this area they make it more emotional than it has been and that gives a better positioning for the brands.

Kraft developped customer loyalty of Canadians with a commercial announcing that Kraft would donate the rest of it’s $ 200 000 television budget to charities and with Kraft Hockeyville partnership with the NHL and CBC.

The key of success was changed mentality but not the product and try new medias with a way of fresh thinking. Now people thinks differently about theirs brands.

Summary

Summary : What makes Nike’s advertising tick?

During his career as co-founder and former Chief Executive of Nike, Phil Knight tried several advertising for raise and globalize the company.

The first advertising was to show the star Ilie Nastase, tennis’ player, and his attitude. After this publicity, Nike had a large growth and it became the number one trainer manufacturer in the U.S. The company met some difficulties and lost the first place by Reebok in 1986 because it didn’t touch the general public with the image. The definition wasn’t clear because it said that was more attitude than sport.

Knight decided to try something else so he put the Beatles track and use Michael Jordan in his publicity. The basketball’s player is the new spokesman for Nike. After this huge change, he decided to globalize with posters’ campaigns around the U.K.

Later, he made a team with the agency Wieden & Kennedy. This partnership is been going on for 21 years. This association between mister Knight and Wieden & Kennedy made a real power on market. They took risk and changed strategies often but now is " One of the world’s best ad agencies." Together, they won " Cannes grand prix". They find also others stars for the company’s image : Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, tennis’ players, Tiger Woods, golf’s player and Brazil’s team, soccer’s players.

Today, Phil Knight takes the best athletes for sell the product. The stars adapt Nike in their sport. They show us than they use that brand. Michael Jordan is the best example as spokesman for Nike. He made a big growth for that company.
